Inorganic or fossil substances, especially minerals, are referred to as healing stones or health stones, which supposedly have a healing effect on illnesses or improve well-being. These effects should be achieved by placing on affected body parts or short or long-term wear as jewelry. Even if science can neither prove nor disprove these effects, it is nonetheless a fact that for thousands of years these stones and crystals have been promised a special effect and people from different cultures have trusted them.

The first written mention of the use of healing stones can be found in Aristotle, a use in earlier cultures such as ancient Egypt is suspected.
